29 ARTS IN PROGRESS
29 Arts In Progress presents at the Palazzo Corvaja in Taormina
“Gian Paolo Barbieri – “The Director of Fashion”
A show of 50 photographic works organized and produced with the patronage of the Municipality of Taormina, of Taormina Arte and of the Taormina Film Festival, this year reaching its 61st edition. Considered one of the best international fashion photographers, with its sublime aesthetical taste, his photos are also exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, at the Kunstforum in Vienna and the National Portrait Gallery in London. The selection of the images is mainly consecrated to fashion and its protagonists. The expositive run embraces over forty years of photography in which the theatricality of its sets has made Barbieri one of the ‘Made in Italy’ favorite interpreters, from Valentino to Armani, from Missoni to Versace, Ferrè and Dolce & Gabbana. Also including his work for French editions, Americans and German Vogue he made in collaboration with international designers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Vivienne Westwood. The exhibition revisits the different shades of fashion photography, from seduction to provocation, from myth to elegance. Photos for fashion magazines, studio portraits, shots taken during set breaks return a colorful fresco of the world of fashion and its dimension suspended among reality and imaginary.
Among the divas and the models posing: Audrey Hepburn, Jerry Hall, Monica Bellucci, Vivienne Westwood, Veruschka, Ann Andersen, Anjelica Huston. A section of the show is devoted to the images shot in the tropical heavens of Tahiti, Madagascar and Seychelles, places and distant realities, where Barbieri has succeeded with its impeccable taste in conjugating the spontaneity of its people with the wonder of the landscapes. The show will be displayed at the Palazzo Corvaja up to June 20th 2015.
In the circle of great events during the Taormina Film Festival’s calendar and hosted in the suggestive center of Palazzo Corvaja, this review represents an incredible opportunity to revisit the best of what photography has been able to express in the world of fashion and to come into contact with a universe of enormous charm and formal elegance.
